Recovery Efforts

Immediately, we are working to get aid to over 3000 people who depend on Sionfonds as their only assistance in the areas of Port Au Prince, Masson, Cavaillon, and Lavanuea. In cooperation with other aid organizations, we are in the process of providing food, water, tents, household supplies and clothing to people who have lost everything in the tragedy. For the injured, we have been providing transportation into the city from the outlying communities Sionfonds serves. Work has begun on gathering and filling a shipping container of food and supplies, and plans for a medical trip and forming groups within Haiti to rebuild homes has begun. We are also in the process of identifying newly orphaned children, and families that have lost parents or breadwinners in order to provide assistance. We are working hard to reopen our schools and are reestablishing our feeding programs. Watch for updates on our homepage for details on this and other projects as they progress!

Looking past the immediate issues to long term recovery, our programs already in place will need to be re-established in some cases, and expanded in all cases. Our adult education and job creation programs in the areas we serve in the countryside are becoming even more essential as people are leaving Port Au Prince. More details on these can be found in the projects area of our site. As we shift from emergency aid to re-establishing family and community support projects, and we will need your donations and volunteer help here and in Haiti to continue our work.

As the immediate tragedy recedes into the past, please help us keep Haiti in the hearts and minds of everyone you know. Our recovery work is just beginning. Sionfonds has always given more than education, more than the opportunity for job training and health care, we have offered hope. The knowledge to the families we serve in Haiti that there are people who care and believe in them and are willing to invest in the future of their family means more than can be measured. You have done that with your donations and commitment to helping Haiti, even when it is so very hard there.
